Monterey County Office of Education (MCOE)
The Monterey County Office of Education works with homeless student liaisons in every school in Monterey County. The liaisons in each school identify homeless student families who have found a new home to move to but lack the upfront deposit and first month’s rent. They also identify homeless student families being threatened with eviction due to short-term arrears resulting from a one-time emergency, usually medical or job change challenges.
Family Housing Qualification Process
The MCOE Office of Homeless Children and Youth Services reviews documentation, validates the need and qualifications to sustain the housing, and approves specific amounts to be paid.
Housing Assistance Fund Distribution
Housing for School Kids grants funds through the Community Foundation for Monterey County to the MCOE Programs Foundation, which issues the checks to the landlord or property management offices for the approved families.
